The public hearing for Pajaro Prep's appeal to the Santa Cruz County Board of Education is set for Wednesday, May 19th at 2:00 p.m. Please come to support our petition!
Today we proudly submitted the Pajaro Prep charter petition to the Santa Cruz County Office of Education. We feel confident that they will provide an honest, thorough and fair evaluation and recommendation! We would be honored and thrilled to have Santa Cruz COE be our authorizing agent!
With great disappointment, our parents and team learned that PVUSD voted not to be our authorizing agent. All along, we have stated that we wanted to work in partnership with the district to provide parents and families with another mainstream public school option that does things differently from the traditional schools in the Valley. Sadly, the district chose not to work with our team to make this a reality. Times are exceedingly difficult for school districts these days, both financially and in areas of student achievement and we can understand some of the districts apprehension about adding another charter school.
However, our parents and team are committed to seeing Pajaro Prep become a reality and offering under-achieving and underserved students a new option to learning, growing and succeeding. We will follow our game plan and submit our charter petition to the Santa Cruz County Board of Education on appea
PVUSD Board of Trustees heard a presentation by the start-up team of Pajaro Prep about the proposed new K-8 charter school option for the parents and families of the Pajaro Valley. The presentation was short, succinct and stressed wanting to assist the school district with a specialized population of students and not wanting to be a burden to the regular operations of PVUSD. A handful of people spoke on behalf of the school and a moving letter was read by one of the migrant farm-working parents who support the project. The district has until April 17th to make a final decision. Meanwhile the team is moving forward with preparation to open the school in August...
We are honored to announce that ConnectedSchools has submitted their first charter petition for the establishment of the Pajaro Preparatory Academy in Watsonville, CA. The school will provide a much needed new option for parents and families of students who are traditionally under-served and under-achieving. The school district has 60 days to hold a public hearing, a final hearing and to make a decision on approval. We are all feeling positive and hopeful that PPA will open this August with excited, smiling and determined kindergarden and first graders!

This week, Mitch was able to travel to the Rio Grande Valley in the southern part of Texas and visit IDEA Charter Schools. These schools have been highly successful at educating students from farm-working, migrant and new immigrant families and Mitch went down on the teams behalf to study their best practices. He intended on spending just two days touring IDEA's schools, but ended up staying a full week! Great stuff happening there...
